Our homeopathic practitioners are not licensed physicians. The state of California, as in many other states, does not offer licenses in homeopathic medicine. As they are not licensed professionals, insurance companies will not cover homeopathic care UNLESS in instances when a medical doctor prescribes the care or refers the patient to a homeopath AND the insurance company agrees to pay for specialty care when prescribed or referred by a medical doctor.
Please take the following steps to verify if your insurance will cover a doctor prescribed or doctor referred homeopathic care:
1) check if an out-of-network visit is supported by your insurance plan,
2) call the insurance company to ask if they will cover the expenses for homeopathic care that is referred by your doctor (licensed professional),
3) if (1) and (2) are confirmed, then ask your doctor to write up a referral (or prescribe for homeopathic care) and have them submit to your insurance company to process pre-authorization with your insurance company.
Once authorized, the insurance company can explain whether they will cover all or portion of the homeopath's fees. Note that insurance companies will not cover the small expenses of homeopathic medicines (or remedies) because they tend to pay for prescription medications only. Homeopathic remedies, which may cost between $5 to $20 without insurance, are over-the-counter products.
